I am using Twenty Eleven theme Version 1.5
Instead of a sidebar, on all pages and posts I get this error message Fatal error: Call to undefined function dynamic_sidebar() in /home/colectiv/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/sidebar.php on line 16
This is the sidebar.php code, can someone tell me where the error is?
    https://pastebin.com/jPiuyNZV

Also on the Widgets page, there is no sidebar to drop the widgets into, and in the Inactive Widgets box it says:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function dynamic_sidebar() in /home/colectiv/public_html/wp-admin/includes/widgets.php on line 80

I have deactivated and activated all plugins.
    My site is: https://www.colectivosustento.org
I hope someone can help me. Thank you

  • It looks like there’s an error in your functions.php file.
I would try re-installing the theme.

You have an error with your theme,
try replacing your theme with a fresh unedited copy.
You probably have a php typo in the function file.

To update your theme, download a fresh Wp, and upload the theme again.
This time as you make edits to the theme files, check at every edit.

I deactivated Twenty Eleven and deleted it and then reinstalled it, and activated it. Nothing changed.
    Is that what you mean?
Sorry to be slow, but what do you mean when you say “download a fresh WP”?

    Yes that was my suggestion.
with a clean WP 3.5 and a clean Twenty Eleven theme.
There should be no issue with the function dynamic_sidebar()
Since you still have issues, one of two causes.
    1) Your WordPress (WP) install is missing a file or two, (this can happen from time to time) solution download new (WP) erase from your server via ftp the system files, (not your config nor wp-content folder), re upload all WP system files.
    2) you have a plugin which is interfering with the function dynamic_sidebar(), deactivate all of them test, activate one at a time, test, find the culprit.

your sidebar.php file looks to be fine. that is not the issue.

I did the WP re install and now i have lost all my pages and posts. This is a big blow, I did not realise I would have to back all of them up. Is there any way in the world to restore them?

Also, the wp-content is not being recognised, so, although the media content is in the c-panel it is not showing up on the dashboard. I don’t know what to do now!

I did the WP re install and now i have lost all my pages and posts.

Do not do anything more until after talking with the folks at your server. I do not know much about this, but your content files might still be there either as they have been or in a backup.

Ok, I have contacted my hosting organisation and fingers crossed they can help me. The interesting thing is that the plugins appear in the admin panel, but the media and galleries don’t, even though they are in the c-panel in wp-content same as the plugins. Oh dear, what a mess!

    Hello colectiv,
    I didn’t suggest a re-install.
Perhaps I should have been more detailed in my suggestion.
It sounds like your knowledge of using WordPress is novice.
I presumed that you had a higher knowledge of your system.
I do hope that your host can do a backup install for you.

If you did a new install over top of the original, via a cpanel script installer, you may have created a new data base, which would mean that your old data base would still be there.

I could help solve this issue, but I’d need more information.
If you can, give a detailed description of what steps you’ve taken to get to where you are. I may be able to talk you through to a solution.

Sometimes it’s best to hire a professional to set up your system.

Yes, I am a novice. I have administered a WP site for several years in another organisation, I did everything to do with the admin panel, dashboard etc, but I didn′t do the tech stuff behind that. We have now formed a new collective (to continue our work with theatre in prisons and outside prisons), and at present we don’t have the money to hire a professional. Flexihostings.net.au who have given us free hosting as a not for profit organisation. The rest has been up to me, and I was going ok, until now…oops. And thank you VERY MUCH for responding and offering to help me!!

So, this is what I did:
    1. I created a new database on the cpanel via MySQL Database wizard.(I see there is an old database still there, with 5.16MB in it.
    2. Through File Manager, in the public_html folder I deleted the wp-admin and wp-includes folders and re-installed them from a fresh download of WP 3.5. I did not delete wp-content or cgi-bin
    3. The upload took me hours as I went file by file, hoping not to miss any out.
    4. Then I went into the dashboard, and went through the “WP 5 minute setup”, which asked me for a new username and password. After that the dashboard re-opened and there were no posts or pages. I have now put the site in maintenance mode.
    5. As I said, the plugins are still in the admin panel, but media and gallery and other uploads, although they appear in wp-content, are not available in the admin panel or on the site.

I hope this is clear, and that something is possible.

    Yep,
you now have two data bases, the old and the new.
I could spend all morning writing a walk through for you on how to fix this,
but like you said, what a mess.
If you’d like to contact me directly via my user name link, I could fix this up for you quicker with a skype call, talk you through it.

Have sent you a letter via your email address on the site. Thanks

    This issue has been resolved.
resetting the wp-config file to the old data base brought all posts and content back to life.

Daiv, you are the best. Many thanks to you.

I have Same problem but i am a real novice .

Can I get novice help or hire someone to help me on this?

My widgets on my word press blog suddenly disappeared and were replaced by this message:

“Fatal error: Call to undefined method GG_Widget_Title_Link::get_settings() in /home4/ndcowie1/public_html/wp-content/plugins/widget-title-links/widget-title-links.php on line 96”

I think it happened after I change the permalink settings from post name to numeric and back again.

    Thanks
