• Upgraded to 3.2 and all of my 140 old posts are gone when in the admin. Plus, I get the message “You are not allowed to edit this post.” when I add a new post.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Are you logged in as an administrator or as the author of those posts?

Yes, I’m using the administrator login. Even created a new user/administrator and go the same thing.

Also, I’ve changed to twenty eleven theme, shut off all plugins and done a manual FTP of 3.2. Nothing worked. Still can’t see any old posts.

Steps I’ve taken to recover the blog after 3.2 Upgrade disaster:

    1. Download every file off server
    2. Removed the entire install of WP
    3. Deleted previous database.
    4. Create new database
    5. Fresh install of WP 3.2 (not an upgrade… new install of 3.2)
    6. Use PHPMyAdmin to import backup database
    7. Upload all plugins, images, and theme files
    8. cross fingers

Make sure to download a backup of your database

If your posts were only gone in admin – and not for site viewers – than the database was undamaged and it was still an upgrade error, and there is no need to start all over. If all your posts were completely gone, than somehow the database was damaged. Talk to your host to see if they have a backup. And yes, keeping your own database and theme backup is a very good idea: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/backwpup/
