• Everything was fine the last time I checked on Sept 4th, but I went in yesterday after the update to 4.6.1 and all of my post pages show empty content. Same with all my pages: empty. The titles and tags are there, but no words. Somehow my live site still has all the content showing up just fine, but the weird thing is that a bunch of ? have appeared throughout the text in the live site.

    I have tried
    – disabling ALL plugins
    – activated twenty eleven Theme (instead of my Minamaze Theme)
    – even tried restoring previous version of site

    Thanks for your replies

I updated my site to 4.6.1 yesterday. No such issue.

    So, try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
resetting the plugins folder by FTP.
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Sixteen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!

so far I’ve tried everything except the manual update… nothing has worked yet. I’m a bit nervous about doing this as I’m a bit of a newbie, but will make sure to backup first and keep you posted.

After manually updating WordPress as instructed, posts are still empty. ?? Word count: 0

Can you create a new post and see if the same happens with it? Also, could you check your browser’s console to see if there are any JS errors? This might help with that: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors

Maybe the site content is showing up if static caching is active.

Check if your DB and all tables are there.

new posts are not affected. The content is saved and shows up when I return to edit.

Also, I checked in my PHPadmin and it looks like the tables are there under Wp_posts.

That’s weird. Could you try to use this plugin to clone an affected post and see if same happens on the duplicated post? https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicate-post/

I tried the plugin – I can clone the new post I created today, but I can’t clone any of the old “empty” posts. Nothing happens when I try.

can you share a link to your website?

are the new posts AND the old posts showing in the same wp_posts table?

when you look at an old post in the database, is there post_content showing in the database cell?
