• i’m using WordPress since like….2013 or before, can’t really remember.

    So, basically, my problem is that there is NO WAY (a part uploading those manually via FTP or via “Upload a new plugin”) to let WordPress Check if my plugins are updated or not.

    In my experience, it’s a pretty common problem across the wordpress community. Soon or later, WordPress totally stops to notify you about plugin available updates, until i ran into infinite random problem that i later notice it’s caused by a non-updated plugin.

    There is a way to know why this happens and how solve it? (how does wordpress check for available plugin updates?) I tried disabling pretty much all plugins and nothing changed.

    Unless you’ve disabled them following the steps at https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/configuring-automatic-background-updates/ (or via a plugin), the WordPress API reaches out to the API here at www.ads-software.com, comparing your WordPress core, plugins, and theme versions to what we have here.

    At Tools > Site Health in your Dashboard, are any errors/warnings reported? If so, what are the errors/warnings?

    I had this problem many times in many years with different hostings/wordpress installations/plugins so i guess its a common problem (or i’m just super unlucky).

    No warnings/errors at Tools > Site Health.

    I haven’t disabled those, neither manually neither via a plugin.

    • Wordfence Security (tried learning mode and disabling, nothing changed)
    • WPS Hide Login

    More than likely I suspect Disable XML-RPC-API.

    WordPress only checks once per day, so leave that deactivated for 2 or 3 days (or 2 or 3 weeks if you’ve already updated your plugins) to see if it makes a difference.

    I don’t know what “bullettin–>Updates” is, unless that’s a translation thing.

    WordPress updates are under Dashboard -> Updates: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/dashboard-updates-screen/

    If I recall correctly, “Check Again” only checks for WordPress core updates.

    Also, what are one or two of the plugins that updates aren’t found for, and what version are you currently stuck with?

    Yes sorry, my bad. Yes, i’m talking about Dashboard–>Updates.

    It’s not 1 or 2, it’s every single plugin. Pretty much every plugin mentioned before, had to be updated manually, cause for my wordpress they were perfectly fine and updated..lol.

    Ok, but so I can compare and investigate a bit, please pick 2 or 3 and let me know what versions they’re stuck at.

    @jerrymayalor555 These options are useless here. The problem isn’t the automatic update of the plugins, the problem is that wordpress is not able to check if updates are available, therefore can’t update them.

    @macmanx Some examples (i don’t get why if every plugin is not being notified, but ok)

    • AMP plugin (not active), version 2.2.0. Currently in store 2.5.1.
    • Site Kit by Google, version 1.114.0, Currently in store 1.116.0

    Hm, yeah, quite a few versions behind. Unfortunately nothing consistent with them either, so no clues there.

    I recommend leaving Disable XML-RPC-API deactivated for 2 or 3 days (or 2 or 3 weeks if you’ve already updated your plugins) to see if it makes a difference.

    If it doesn’t, we might need to dig a bit deeper for anything in .htaccess or maybe the server firewall that could be blocking xmlrpc.php or communication with www.ads-software.com or its IPs altogether.

    The server doesn’t have a firewall enabled. My .htaccess is pretty basic, it just has the litespeed rules in it (with pretty basic caching settings).

    Also in site health, wordpress says its reachable so….no idea.

    Even tried to run wp_update_plugins() via a plugin to see if it wasn’t working/running, but nothing, it just says the plugins are updated.

    There are some processes of WordPress i could run with the plugin “WP Control” for example, to see if my installation reach the sources? cause i’m running ouf ot ideas xD

    Hi, I have the same problem.
    Current WordPress version: 6.4.2.

    Can’t find a way to permit WordPress to check if my plugins are updated or not. Also, it doesn’t permit to force the updates from interface somehow.

    Tried to activate debug mode in config.php to check any type of error but nothing. No explanations of the problem at all.

    Can anyone help us?

    We are having the same problem. It’s been going on for about 8 months. Core will update fine but plugins say they are updated when they are not. Disabling all plugins doesn’t fix it.

    Like tux1 we also have yoast and wordfence.

    Has anyone found a cause/solution to this?
