    Just updated.
My plugin library is now empty.
When I try to install any plugin, I get this same error message:

    Could not create directory. /home2/mylifem1/public_html/thebook/wp-content/plugins/wp-smushit/

    Plugin install failed.

  • Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

any idea where i find the WP-contents folder that I’m supposed to rename?
i’m in my Wrdp1 database and dont see that folder anywhere

You are not supposed to rename the wp-contents folder. You need to rename the wp-content/plugins folder. And it can be found on your site’s server and accessed using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    gotcha.
so my wordpress is installed on a subdomain.
I go to that subdomain in my File Manager and I see WP-contents.
I click that and I see a folder that says “Plugins.old”
There’s no folder that just says “Plugins”.
So I rename that folder to “Plugins.hold”, then log into wp-admin.php and then return to File Manager and rename folder back to its original “Plugins.old”
    Have I done this correctly?
Because Plugins still fail to install?

No – just leave the plugins folder renamed as plugins.hold for now and create a new folder called plugins. What error are you seeing now?
