All posts that do not have “Enable Post Expiration” checked in post settings are being set to expire ~12hr in the future any time they are updated.

    To reproduce this bug:
    1) Add a new post, do not check “Enable Post Expiration”
    2) Publish the new post new and return to posts control panel
    3) Post will show an expiration date.
    4) Quick-Edit post and uncheck “Enable Post Expiration”
    5) Edit the post. “Enable Post Expiration” will be unchecked.
    6) Make no changes to the post but click “Update” and then return to posts control panel.
    7) Post will show new expiration date.

Checking “Enable Post Expiration” and manually setting an expiration date will save that expiration date, and updating posts with expiration dates does not appear to affect them. Any post without an expiration date will be given one upon updating the post.

I have not changed any of the default settings, so:
    Settings -> Post Expirator -> General -> Default Date/Time Duration = None
    Settings -> Post Expirator -> Post Types -> Post -> Auto-Enable? = Disabled

I have turned off all plugins aside from this one and reverted to the WP-2021 theme to confirm this is not a plugin/theme conflict.

  • Hello,

If I create an article without checking the expiration box, and I publish my article anyway on an expiration date corresponding to the publication date, why?

    Thanks

Hi guys, thanks for reporting the issue.
We have a new package addressing this bug.
Please, could you try it and let us know the results?

    Thanks,

    Anderson

We have the same problem. With the beta 2.6.2.beta.1 it works here. Thanks!!

There seems to be additionally a bug with the time: an article is set to expire 23. Dec. 2021 at 23:59h (means 11:59pm).

In the list view of the articles the correct time is displayed (23:59h), but when editing the article, the date/time entry box of your plugin displays: 10:59 p.m.

@edit: ah ok, I have found this bug report. It’s already known.

I’ve installed the beta and am still experiencing the issue. When editing a page, the post expiration box is automatically checked with a default time 4 hours from the initial edit. If I uncheck, save, and re-edit, the setting remains unchecked but is always checked when editing a page for the first time since the bug was introduced.

Thanks @otplsteve Yes, this is a GMT that we plan to solve in version 2.6.3.

@markusd112 shared the correct link above.

I thought after installing the beta, the expirator checkbox would no longer be checked by default. I just went through all of my pages, opened and unchecked expirator, and re-saved.

@otplsteve Sorry, that feedback is not clear. Is something still broken, part from the timezone?

Pages and posts that aren’t set to expire are having expiration dates applied if the page is opened for editing as stated in the original post even after the beta version has been installed. In order to avoid forgetting to make sure the setting is disabled moving forward, I went through and opened all of my pages for editing, disabled the checkbox, and saved so that I wouldn’t forget to remove the checkbox in the future in case the resolution is delayed for whatever reason. Or am I misunderstanding the expected results of v2.6.2-beta?

    Hi @otplsteve

Can you update to yesterday’s 2.6.2 release?

If the problem remains, take a look at the default settings, both in “General” and for your post type. Do you see anything if you change the default settings?

    Resolved with latest patch. Thanks.

@otplsteve is this patch going to come as an update soon?

Sorry for the confusion. By patch, I meant v2.6.2 that was released a few days ago.

    Hi,

we noticed still problems with v.2.6.2 when editing any already existing page, the page will set to an expiration date and isn’t accessible any longer. We have to edit it again and clear the “post expiration” checkbox…

    Thanks and best regards,

    Markus

    Hi,
bug still exists in v.2.6.3. And now again when editing posts, not only pages as in v.2.6.2…
    best regards
    Markus
