• Hi everyone,

    I run a blog over at: razorianfly.com

My WordPress install has been running flawlessly for about 2 months, but tonight Ia major problem has occurred.
Posts on the blog’s front page are not visible. I did nothing for this to happen, it just seemed to manifest itself.

This is the third time this has happened tonight – with the previous two times involving me contacting my host 34sp.com, and asking them to sort it. They did, and blamed the MySQL database. But it’s gone down again, for a third time.

Now, when I login to dashboard, I can’t manage the posts, but they are all still there. It says ‘Published (217)’ – Which suggests the data is still there. I took a backup of the posts as a XML export file just before this happened. It’s no use though, as trying to import it works – but the posts still don’t show.

I also cannot access my hosting account on the domain, which suggests a server error, although the host reports back there are no such issues currently. I have a site-map which is managed by the template at razorianfly.com/site-map, and although still accessible — for now — the ‘Recent posts’ return no results. Searching for keywords I know exist, returns no search results.

Can anyone shed some light onto what might be causing this?
and secondly, why it might keep re-occurring?

I’m currently running WordPress 2.5, by choice.

    Cheers,
    Arron

  • You mentioned you have the XML file. Check to see/scan if all posts are there. At least you have some backup.
Server crash. So when you log in phpMyAdmin, nothing is left in your database? Can you try to backup database?
    – What I’d do is delete all WP files EXCEPT wp-config.php, htaccess and wp-content. Download the your WordPress (if you still want 2.5 version at least make it 2.5.1, but always better to get latest 2.6.3). Unzip and upload to server.
    – Then, drop all tables in your database to make room for new tables.
    – Go to https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php – this will generate the new tables in DB – go through install process
    – Go to Dashboard of install, Manage-Import WordPress and on the next panel, get XML PLUS click on attach media files button. Don’t worry if it won’t import all on first try. Sometimes it takes more than once to get all posts/attachments.

    Hi mercime,

Thanks for replying, really appreciate it.

The issue is now worse as the frontpage is now not accessible anymore, along with all directories, and I can no longer access my hosting admin panel at /site-admin/.

Now because of this, I can’t check to see what is in the database.

I will now try the steps you’ve outlined. I’ve checked the XML file and all posts up to current are there. I can do everything, except:

“drop all tables in your database to make room for new tables.”

As I have no idea how to do that.

Once again, thanks for the help.

    Cheers,

razorianfly, read the following through to Step TWO only because after the drop tables, you will be importing the XML file
