I recently updated Wordfence to 7.3.5 and, suddenly, all of the optimized firewall settings were disabled. Upon attempting to optimize the firewall for the added protection, I ran through the process, received the Installation Successful window, and waited an hour for the firewall to optimize. With my server tech, I even manually edited my user.ini and php.ini files to include the correct path for auto_prepend_file setting. The plugin still displays Optimize the Wordfence Firewall. We’re running PHP 7.3 with PHP-FPM. The WAF diagnostics state that auto_prepend_file is Off when it’s on and manually assigned the correct path to wordfence-waf.php. We’re stumped! Did something change with 7.3.5? What else should we do? Any help appreciated. ?? Eric

Upon further investigation, we downgraded one of our users to PHP 7.2 and the firewall is optimized. Is your plugin not compatible with PHP 7.3.6?

    Hi @ericreynolds007,

I think PHP-FPM might be overriding the auto_prepend_file setting.

Can you go into Wordfence -> Tools -> Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window? (For example: https://i.imgur.com/Oq5NNln.png )

What does it say for Server API and Loaded Configuration File? (For example: https://i.imgur.com/fdLWO9L.png )

You can change FPM settings within cPanel or WHM (depending on which one your host uses).

Thanks for the response, Dave. The Server API reads FPM/FastCGI and the Loaded Configuration File reads /opt/cpanel/ea-php73/root/etc/php.ini

So I believe FPM is overriding the auto_prepend_file setting specifically for PHP 7.3.

Were you able to access your FPM settings through cPanel or asking your host if the pool settings could be changed?
