    Hi,

With the plugin enabled all the visitors seem to be converted to ‘direct’ as source. Therefore I can’t track the source of my conversions (facebook, google ads etc.).

I load the facebook and google cookies with GTM, and people first have to give consent (press ok) for the cookies to load.

I think it’s because the people are already on the website, and the cookies load after they click ‘ok’, therefore the cookies can’t track where they came from?

Anyone else dealt with this problem? How do I fix this?

    Greetings,
    Daan

    Hi @dahaan,

    Thanks for using our plugins.

If the visitors already accepted the cookies (from a previous visit) the referrer should be sent to GTM however if they first accept the cookies on your site the traffic could be converted to “direct”. If you have the ‘utm_source’ parameter in the URL once the visitors accepts the cookies the source will be sent in your GA account.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I guess the solution you provided doesn’t work for organic visitors then? Is there some other way?

Is it because I’m using GTM?

    Hi @dahaan,

You can try to add a GA code snippet (you can keep the GTM as well) for testing purposes, and check the direct sources.

Alternatively you can read more about the traffic source setup here: https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/track-the-initial-traffic-source-of-the-visitor-gtm/

Unfortunately we can’t do much in our plugins, as the issue is related to the 3rd party scripts.

    Hope this helps.
