I’m having an issue of all VideoPress files displays as being private after migrating from a development to production server. The only way to get them to play while logged in is to use “self hosted” and reference the .mp4 link from the WP media library. Any attempts to view or embed using VideoPress display as being private, even if logged in.

    What we have tried:
We have reconnected to our JetPack account repeatedly and disabled it on the development server.
Confirmed that site wide privacy features are not enabled under VideoPress settings.
Attempted to manually set video privacy settings to public.
    Cleared browser and server caches.
Confirmed there are no plugin conflicts.
FYI – When I filter videos in VideoPress with the “Private” box clicked, it shows no results. All videos are returned if “Public” is selected.

I was finally able to find the issue. It seems Jetpack keeps disabling the VideoPress license, though it doesn’t display any information saying so and if I attempt to add it again, it says that it is already active on the site. When this happens, I’m unable to upload videos and all current videos become “private”. The only way I can get it to work again is to first activate it on the dev server, add the license and then go back to production and reactive the license. At that point it disables on my the dev environment and videos once again work on prod. HOWEVER, it disabled itself again.

I’ve gone through the process again, but removed jetpack from my dev environment after the fact this time. Hopefully it doesn’t break again.

It would be helpful to have a “remove license” feature for addons and not just the option to disconnect jetpack. Or more useful to be able to use VideoPress without the rest of the JetPack baggage.

    Hi there, @khoneycutt,

Thanks for your patience and for bearing with us; we’re working on a backlog of support requests at this time, and we generally answer in the order received.

I am glad to hear you eventually managed to fix the issue; can you confirm your videos are now displayed publicly and not set as private anymore? If you need more help, we need to get your site URL here so that we can have a look. If you want it to remain private, contact us via this contact form (and include a link to this thread).

That sounds like a nice enhancement to share with our design and product teams. In the spirit of making the enhancement sound more genuine by coming from a direct VideoPress user, you can create an enhancement request on GitHub yourself ??
