All WP dashboard options missing while theme options still visible + UTF-8 issue

    Hello,

    I have access to my website’s dashboard but I can’t see any of the WP options (like pages, posts, plugins, appearence, users, etc.). The only things I see on the left are the template options and the Visual Composer plugin options.

    Also, I have an issue with UTF-8 since characters don’t appear as they should.

    I have re-uploaded a fresh version of WP through Filezilla. I also have re-uploaded the theme (which is up-to-date too). I have deactivated all plugins at once, then one at a time (from Filezilla but also in the database). I have erased the database and re-uploaded a saved version of it. And nothing…

    What I did recently: an update of WP and the theme + installation of BackWPUp plugin. But the website was fine after that.

    Do you have an idea of what I could try to solve this?

  • Try switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    Thanks for your reply Esmi! I have tried it too and nothing changed. The UTF-8 and the missing dashboard options issues were still there…

    When did you last repair your database tables? Do you have any recent (pre-troubles) backups?

    I didn’t need to repair the database until now (post-troubles). And the backups I have are all post-troubles apparently. I’ve tried to re-upload the database with a backup but the issues remain.
    I’m (almost) hopeless… :-/

    I just fixed the UTF-8 issue in the database under wp_options > blog_charset, I put utf8mb4_unicode_ci instead of UTF-8. Yay!

    But I still don’t see the WP options in my dashboard….

    I finally tried one last time to delete every file through Filezilla and re-uploaded everything, plugin by plugin. My pictures were missing. But except for that, I got my website to work as it should.

    I still have a DB issue, according to my back up because of the special characters I use on the website (it’s in French). I’ll figure out!

    What happened will remain a mystery… ??
