• Hi

I am still quite new to this.

A friend has asked me to build a website for his business. I am doing this on www.ads-software.com offline using MAMP.
When the site is done, it will have a calendar attached showing when he’s free for bookings etc. However, that data would need to be updated daily and I certainly don’t want to get involved with that – after all, I’m just designing the site. How can I hand that part of the site over to him to manage once the site is live?

    I’m really confused.

    Thanks,
    A noob

  • If the calendar function is through a plugin then give your client author or editor level access to the site. He’ll be able to see and use the plugin but won’t be able to uninstall or modify it inadvertently. Of course, you’ll have to show him how to modify the info in the plugin to reflect his availability.

    Hope that helps

    It certainly does, thanks.

One other thing – if it’s a www.ads-software.com site that’s being hosted, what does the customer need to do to access the dashboard as an editor? In other words, will I have to install www.ads-software.com for him and set up a database?

Just for clarification, when you say a www.ads-software.com site do you mean a self-hosted site (you pay to have it hosted)? The other alternative is a WordPress.com (i.e. free).

I have to admit I don’t use WordPress.com at all (mainly because its not as flexible as I like for my sites).

Either way, once you’re logged in, go to Users – Add New. That will take you to a page to set up his/her account. Put in the site owner’s name and email address (has to be a real address as confirmations go out on the address and if they ever need to reset their password, it’s that email address that’s used for the lookup). Create a password and select the level of access from the dropdown (subscriber, contributor, author, editor or administrator).

Click save and you’re good to go.

The owner will need to go to https://www.thesitename.com/wp-login.php in a browser to login.

Thank you very much for your input.
It will indeed be a hosted site built in www.ads-software.com. I am developing it using MAMP and then I’ll transfer it to the server.

    Glad to help!
