Allow for 2x screenshots after 3.5 drops

Oh? How are they different? I mean is it a different filename?

The info I have is as follows:

Rather than recommending 300×225, themes should start using an image that is 600×450. Same 4:3 W:H ratio, just doubled. This would *not* be a new screenshot-2x.png file. Rather, the standard screenshot.png file should now be 600×450.

Granted that was back in September but has this now changed?

Sorry if “2x” was misunderstood. We’ve been using “2x” in reference to retina-ready on Trac for months.

I was building a theme based off of Twenty Twelve the other day and it occurred to me that Theme Check was finding the 2x screenshot and “recommended” that I downsize it. So it occurred to me that when 3.5 drops, we should probably start supporting twice-sized screenshots after 3.5 drops because the bundled themes will be shipping with them. That’s all.

I could’ve waited a month and a half to post the request but it was fresh in my mind right then.

Ah! I’ve got Nacin’s mail to the theme review team sat in my inbox as a reminder when I update all of my themes post 3.5.

BTW, you can use HiDPI images right now in themes, you don’t have to wait for 3.5. The image tag used is fixed in the admin to the right dimensions, so even using a larger image will work fine, and allow HiDPI displays to display the image with the better quality.

I’ve just applied the change to the theme uploader for this, like I meant to do originally.
