    Hi
Is it possible to allow a user to set their own password? At present, the only options I can see are to generate a new one (which is something that WP does) – which is generating a very obscure one. While strong, it means that users can’t either have an algorithm that lets them create a memorable, unique, strong password, nor use something like KeePass to generate one …

I’ve found the plugin https://af.www.ads-software.com/plugins/tags/ban-weak-passwords – which is updated to 4.3, so as it’s banning weak ones, there must be a way of setting p/w … but I can’t find it.

    Thanks.

OK, I see that it’s a feature that’s been added in 4.3 – am I right in thinking that there’s now no option to select your own password. Sure, have something to ensure that someone has x characters, with the relevant mix of case, special, numbers etc,. but I can forsee frequent password resets, and lots of postits on computers if you can’t select your own. (e.g. I set a new blog up yesterday & I haven’t got a clue what the p/w is. It’s going to be v. difficult for many.

Ah, I see, if you click on the “reset” it allows you to override the suggested one – I’d just not thought of clicking on it, as I didn’t want it to reset to something I’d never remember!

Not as bad as I thought ??

Passwords in 4.3: Strong by Default

I don’t believe there is anything that prevents a user from changing their password. Just click in the generated password field and overwrite the randomly generated strong suggestion with your own password.

    [edit] …Nevermind. ??

Thanks! I’d have found your post very reassuring, had I not braved it & tried ??
