I’m just noting that your response doesn’t speak to the purpose of the post, i.e., removing the baked in reliance on Gravatar, and/or giving users a built-in option to use the media library instead. This stands.

Not relevant to this post. Post is about using profile pictures, not disabling profile pictures.
There are numerous plugins to enable users to create their own avatars. You can find a selection here:?https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/tags/avatar/
Already aware of this. This post is about WordPress core making provision for user profiles using the media library (Gravatar should be an option, not the only built-in way to do this… it’s just silly).
