    Hi,
I am about to install WordPress MU v2.92 – possibly will upgrade to v3.0 – with several sub-domains. What I am looking to offer is that only a handpicked set of themes and plugins are available for installation to [even] the administrator of those sub-domains.
I will appreciate some incite into it, by anyone.
    TIA

  • Why not install 3.0 to start? the multisite/network feature in it is wpmu.

Restricting themes is built in by default. Only the Super Admin can install themes. If you want to use some things on some blogs and not let anyone else pick them, you can do that too.

Plugins: you are the Super Admin, you’re the only one who can install those too. The Plugin menu is disabled by default, so even adminis of their own blogs on the network can’t see the menu.

you can activate some plugins globally. it depends.

Thanks Andrea, do you mean I should upgrade existing v2.9.2 of MU to v3.0 of MU? If this is the recommendation will do it immediately, please response ASAP.
    TIA,

Yes. Upgrade or reinstall with 3.0.

But you’ll be on WordPress. 3.o. WPMU as a separate project is no more.

Okay, am going to upgrade my current installation of WordPress MU v2.9.2 to the latest available version of WordPress [may be MU] accessible from the update button available on the Admin page of the main blog.
I have read similar story somewhere else as well ‘Is it true that from version 3.0 onwards there will be only one version of WordPress?’ and there wouldn’t be any separate MU version?
    Please respond.

As of WordPress 3.0, there is no separate install for WPMU. It’s all one and the same. If you upgrade from WPMU 2.9.2, it will take you to WordPress 3.0, and your MU/Multisite features will remain intact.

    So yes, that is true.
