• Beautiful plugin, and fantastic concept. Definitely the most well-thought page builder. If some bad UX and bugs were taken care of this should be adopted as WordPress’ standard visual editor!! Produces ‘clean’ code, which is editable directly in the WordPress text window, which is the holy grail as a developer. I feel completely secure giving my designer free reign to build with this, knowing that the ensuing code will be serviceable!

That being said there are a SURPRISING amount of bugs and bad UI choices for such a well-adopted and premium-priced plugin. It seems like the team needs to invest a bit more in quality control. I’ve offered to be a beta tester and/or submit pull requests, but they haven’t taken me up on the offer (yet).

    Bad UX:
    – Hover events disappear too quickly so it’s hard to activate buttons
    – “Items” sidebar drawer doesn’t stay open when clicked, constantly losing focus and having to re-open and re-scroll is annoying
    – Not being able to manually set margin/padding in the properties window a NIGHTMARE, dragging padding/margins individually and overlapping editor buttons preventing you from adjusting… ugh
    – Not being able to resize columns below 100px (whaaaat the?!?)
    – Not being able to adjust button horizontal padding independently from vertical padding
    – You should be able to “Lock” an element so that hovering over it won’t steal your pointer from an element that overlaps it

Support is pretty damn good, pretty responsive for being in the Philippines (I think), so support responses come at weird hours, and the time zone difference (from the East Coast US) means it takes days to back-and-forth, which isn’t fantastic.

For the things I have sent to support they’ve said they are implementing, so I guess it’s “wait and see” if that happens or not. Again, would be great if there was more transparency in development, like a github repo to submit PRs to. Guess I’ve just gotten too spoiled working in Open Source 8)

  • Thanks, Gifford! This is really great feedback. I’ve compiled this list of issues and submitted them to Ben, and that the team’s looking forward to working on them. Really helpful!

We get what you mean regarding some of the UX stuff you’ve mentioned though, and how it can get frustrating at times- especially the margins and paddings thing. Rest assured that it’ll definitely be implemented in our future updates, hopefully soon! Quick tip in the meantime: you can press the shift key on your keyboard while adjusting margins and paddings so that the sizes are adjusted to numbers divisible by 10 while dragging. ??

We’re sorry about the support hours as well. It’ll probably be a while before we can operate 24/7 (or at least in East Coast US). We hope we’re able to make up for it with quality support for now, though! ??

Anyway (and more importantly), our team’s been discussing what you mentioned last week regarding the pull requests, and we were wondering if you’d be interested in joining a developer-only area for Sandwich? We’re thinking of setting a new one up in Slack, since we do want our developer community to grow, so we’re planning of compiling and uploading all of our builds somewhere for trusted devs to access. Let us know, Gifford! Thanks again for all the feedback, we appreciate it a lot!
