Alphabetical pagination for list of records?

I am building our church site using wordpress and want to add a section that contains our electronic church member directory (contains names, numbers, emails, etc.) – password protected of course. The format will be block style address (like on an envelope). Now, this list will be a bit large – around 300 different entries and I will want it to be paginated of course.

My only issue is how the best way to implement this would be. It would obviously need to be updated as we go, which is no problem. However, I would like to be able to paginate it by letter, not page number. Is this easily achieved?

I suppose I could have several separate pages one for letters A-G, H-L, etc. and then paginate those which would be okay. I would then have to add links at the top of those pages to get to the corresponding letter pages (which I could accomplish with a page template). But, as with most things, if this has already been done somewhere, I do not want to re-invent the wheel so to speak.
