Already customized theme

  • I am new to using WordPress. I am not used to updates overriding a theme, nor heard of child themes. I have a customized OceanWp theme template using various features of Elementor to build it.

    Can I make that into the child theme or will I have to start from scratch? I picked the template in OceanWP that had the layout I wanted, a commerce one, then dumped all the commerce part. laughing…

    I just got a notice about the update, saw something about child themes and now not sure if I should update the theme. Recommendation please?

    Child themes are used when you need to customize your site or let’s say when you have to make changes to core theme files. To avoid your changes from getting lost during theme update you make whatever changes you need to make in a child theme.

    Let me know what changes you want to make using a child theme.
