• When i try to install wordpress, i get the following message after step 3:

You appear to already have WordPress installed. If you would like to reinstall please clear your old database files first.

I’m quite sure i haven’t installed wordpressed before and have tried repeating the installation process various times to confirm this, each time emptying my database. How is this so and how can i overcome it?

  • When you say “emptying my database,” do you mean you’ve dropped the WP tables from it?

Anyway, try running wp-admin/upgrade.php if you continue to have problems.

Perhaps you’re on a shared MySQL database (as found with many free webhosts) and someone else has all ready installed WordPress?

Yes. I’ve dropped the tables. And i’m not using a free host. Pretty sure it was empty.

Try just deleting the database and creating a new one.
