• Firstly, everything I have done here is on my development server – my live site is still happily running 4.5.3.

    First Attempt – Automatic Upgrade
    Updated all plugins.
    Updated wordpress.
After the upgrade completed, i was redirected to – https://xxxx/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F.
    The page displays the message

    Already Installed
You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.

When I log in I end up back at the same page.

    Second Attempt – Manual Upgrade
Followed the manual update instructions to the letter – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update
    Same result.
The manual updates were done via SSH.

Site is running Woo Commerce with the Shopkeeper theme from getbowtied, with very minor customisations.

    Many thanks for any help.
    Gareth

I too have had this issue. I keep getting looped back to the error message and I don’t want to overwrite or clear the database because doing so would lose valuable posts. I’m not sure what to do. Did you ever find a fix for this?
