    Hello,
I am completely new to WordPress and MySQL. I’ve uploaded the unzipped files on my web host using the “5 minute install” in a subdirectory named /blog. I created an empty SQL database called blog and added a user to the databse as per the instruction. I’ve tried to do the installation of the program through my web browser but get the following error

    Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the blog database.

    Are you sure it exists?
Does the user ******* have permission to use the blog database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

Another post had a similar problem but was with Godaddy.com. I am not with that host and the resolution does not seem to work. I am with Camelot Hosting, which seems to meet all the requirements for using WordPress. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chuck Bender

  • The message is clear: the DB_NAME value is not OK in your wp-config file.

    Moshu,
Thanks. I wasn’t sure what I should do with your response so I just went into my wp-config file and added my prefix of my user name. It worked! Thanks for the suggestion.
