I am using the Polylang plugin so that I can have my site in English and Spanish. I have created two galleries – one to use on the English version, and one to use on the Spanish version.

I have inserted these galleries in to each page and on the English version the alt tags and title tags work fine.

On the Spanish version however, the alt tags and title tags aren’t showing correctly. The first image in the gallery works, but the rest of them don’t. They’re just showing as the filename which is what’s imported when I upload them. I have changed all of the alt tags and title tags to what I want but they don’t work.

I’ve tried changing the Lightbox Effects to each one to see if that made a difference but it didn’t.

It’s only when I changed the page from Spanish to English that it started working, but obviously I need the page to be Spanish.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi @emzdesign,

Could you please let us know what gallery source and the display type you use? Is that a “Basic TagCloud” or a Tag sourced gallery?

Also, let’s double check to see if the images load fine while visiting the Spanish version of the gallery within “Manage Galleries”.

I insert the gallery into the page and it creates the following short code:

    [ngg src="galleries" ids="21" display="basic_thumbnail" thumbnail_crop="0" number_of_columns="6"]

The images load fine when I go to Manage Galleries. The images and alt/title tags are correct here. It’s only when I view the gallery on the Spanish version that the alt/title tags don’t work correctly.

Oh, so it’s about the Alt/Title captions not tags. We are differentiating these because NextGen also includes a tag caption.

It’d complicated to guess what is hapening without having a direct look at your site. Feel free to submit a report at https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/

Apologies, I’ve always referred to the alt attribute as an Alt tag, sorry for the confusion.

I have just submitted a report but it says it’s not for technical support? Will you still be able to help with this?

Yes, we’ll take it from there. Thanks.

Duplicating the reply here for everyone who will follow the thread:

If using Polylang, you can in fact have a single set of galleries and just set translations for other languages.

It appears that there were created both galleries using English language ( for the backend ) and thus, Polylang couldn’t detect any translations for the Spanish captions.

You’ll need to switch to “Spanish” from the language switcher at the top then access “Languages -> Translations” and search for the captions you need to set Spanish translation to.
