    Hi
I want to alter the template files but I want to do so that they aren’t overwritten when the plugin is updated.

How can we do it please?

    Cheers

    Morris

    Hi Morris,

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no option or non-destructive way to do this in the plugin. We’ve noted this as a feature request and will discuss the viability of implementing a possible way to do this in a future update.

    Hi
I am sure the viability would be beneficial for others as well.

I want to add some custom fields to the templates and I can’t do it safely without this implemented.

How hard would it be to implememt it, surely not that hard to do…

Thanks for replying and hopefully you can do it.

    Hi
I have managed to do it, it was simple really so don’t know why the plugin developer mentioned it was a feature request as it was already available….

I created a folder called fdm-templates in my child theme and then copied the template file that I wanted to override and make my edits or changes to.

    So now I have:

wp-content/themes/my-child-theme/fdm-templates/menu-item.php or any other template file.

    Morris.

Just found the link to a page about the templates and how to change them safely.

    https://www.fivestarplugins.com/2014/01/28/customize-restaurant-menu-templates/

So this wasn’t a feature request as again, this plugin can already do it and it’s mentioned on their website….

    Hi Morris,

I apologize for any confusion caused by my initial response. I checked with the development team about this and you’re absolutely right about the templates folder. It is an older feature (i.e. from before the 2.0.0 Five Star update), and, so, I wasn’t fully aware of how it worked or if it still worked. Nevertheless, I should’ve inquired about it with the devs before my initial reply. Sorry again about that, and thank you for sharing it here.
