It seems that Alternate Heading feature is broken in version 1.7 when Show as Hierarchy is disabled in options.
When show Hierarchy is enabled in options — Alternate Heading is working fine on 1.7

And @shazahm1hotmailcom, it seems that Alternate Heading feature is fixed in 2.0-rc2 version from github.
Any way to move forward with releasing stable 2.0 version to WP.org repo?

I do not have an eta at this time, but it is getting really close. There are still a few issues to iron out.

I am working towards release. I’ve done a few “mini” releases of a couple release candidates to see if they generate any support issues. Best guess, at least 500 users are actively running a rc version and I have not seen any support requests related to those. So I believe the code has reached a point where it may be stable for a broader release.

I’m really would like to help you with contributing (solve issues, testing) and releasing stable 2.0 version. One of my projects needs working Alternate Headings feature, but I can’t use RC version in case of some important reasons.

And I have enough time for contributing now. It would be great if you provide your roadmap to stable 2.0.

I actually do consider it stable now. I have actually been doing “mini” releases of the RC, allowing 300-500 updates before rolling back to 1.7. I’m doing this to control the amount of support in order to catch as many edge issues as possible before allowing a wide scale update.

There seems to be a compatibility issue with WPBakery and Pods. If you have time and access to WPBakery it would be great if you could test it out. I suspect it will be as easy as adding an exclusion to when the_content filter runs in WPBakery .
