• Is there any way when “translating” an image to set an alternate one for the other language? Currently the media is one and the same, the plugin lets translation only of the text data (title, caption, etc) but keeps the same media file.

  • You can add a single media file for the language and link it to the main language.

@codestylist I don’t see any way to link two images. Suppose I upload two of them and mark one as language1 and the other as language2, how one can link two of these?

I have the same concern as OP.

I can upload two different images (both have text in their respective languages), but as soon as I modify one of the posts, the other linked post gets the same image updated. I’m looking for a way to prevent that from happening.

    Hi,

That’s the desired way of working. One media file is shared across all languages and the text is translatable. If you need a different image, then it’s a different media and you can’t “link” it to another.

@robraymond. Your issue is different. You probably activated synchronizations (or a plugin/theme activated the synchronizations for its own features).

Thank you for your reply. However If the image has text in some context it is required to have different versions for the different languages.
I actually solved my problem a little hacky – I replaced the image associated with the media for the other language. This can be done either manually or using a plugin (there is one free in the repository – “Replace Image” which does that fine), which means this could be handled by your plugin directly as well as an option.
