If the colors are not as expected, I again assume that your theme is setting them. You could set your own via the code in the FAQ, maybe extended by the !important flag.

Weird, I made sure the preview was on, but it wasn’t working? I re-saved it, in case!

thanks! It looks like your theme is also setting a text color for alternating rows. To change it, please extend the CSS block

.tablepress tbody td {
	background: #ffffff;
}

(near the top of your “Custom CSS”) to

.tablepress tbody td {
	background: #ffffff;
	color: #333333;
}

(#333333 is a close-to-black dark gray, but you can of course change that color value.)
