• Woocommerce is the BEST thing in the world!
Actually… maybe second to WordPress itself. ??

I love it. Those guys are awesome. Giving away for free probably has made them 100x richer and bigger (by then charging for other things).

BUT… I want to try something else.
One big giant monster in a market dominating is always a bad thing!

So what the second and 3rd best alternatives?

    Thanks.

  • Unfortunately, WooCommerce is the biggest bestest ECommerce plugin on the WordPress ecosystem at the moment. Completely backed by Automattic itself, it also has it’s own support system and it’s own ecosystem of add-on plugins to account for any functionality non-WordPress ecommerce sites may have. I don’t think there’s anything really comparible in the plugin repository.

    Some plugins you can try:

    Ecwid Ecommerce Shopping Cart

    Shop Construct

    eCommerce Product Catalog Plugin

You may find more not listed here:

    Search Results for “ecommerce”

    Search Results for “shop”

That sums it up for me. ??
I’ll stick with Woocommerce. It’s awesome anyway and so much for free.

There is Easy Digital Downloads if you are selling digital products, but if you run an online store, I don’t think there’s anything that can beat WooCommerce.

I do disagree that the dominance of an open-source project is bad, WooCommerce makes money from selling its own paid plugins, but it has also created opportunities for thousands of developers to build on the platform. Being open-source, anybody can take it and fork it if they think they can make a better product.

Another thing to consider, if you take the whole eCommerce software market into account, WooCommerce has only captured a small fraction.
