Am I right to be scared of upgrading to 2.2?

  • I don’t really trawl these boards after each major upgrade, but seems like there are quite a few pretty serious hiccups with 2.2, especially with regard to the Dashboard and widgets.

    Is this normal? How long should I wait before trying it?

    I guess worst-case scenario is I just have to restore and go backwards for a while if everything goes south?

  • Actually, I just upgraded today from 2.1.x to 2.2 and have had no problems. Then again, I don’t have an site using umpteen plugins.

    i’m only using the spam plugin ..

    did you upgrade direct from 2.1 to 2.2 …

    Keep in mind you only read about problems here. I had two glitches and they were both because of my specific configuration. They’re solved now so I’d say not to worry about upgrading.

    The only problem I am having (and not getting any answers for) is a problem with no line breaks in my comments.

    I have upgraded six sites to WP 2.2 and each site has the same problem — no line breaks or paragraphs unless I go into the edit comment mode and re-save.

    Apparently, I am not the only one having this problem. It isn’t a theme issue, it also does it on the default theme too.

    If you are concerned about how your comments display, I would hold off until that issue is fixed.

    I upgraded, have about 10+ working plugins and haven’t had one problem. I do however HATE the new preview feauture.

    I was expecting problems. I just upgraded and now my homepage is missing with the error below, so I’m reverting until I get a chance to look at this issue in detail.

    I have 2.2 and have about 20 plugins… they all work completely fine and i have no problems with the dashboard ??

    The only issues I have had with 2.2 so far:

    1) K2 broken because of widgets. Disable them and use the regular sidebar module instead, until new K2 is out.

    2) RSS feed seems broken in 2.2. Feedburner won’t recognize my feeds on my 2.2 blog.

    I’m having a problem with embedded flash videos and my theme. I would recommend that you wait. I wish I did…

    Don’t upgrade yet. I have had a lot of problems. Wait a few weeks.

    Damn, now it’s too late, and my themes are unable to be edited.

    This rapid cycle of upgrades is proving to major hassle which is defeating the whole advantage of wordpress. It’s been less than two months since 2.1! What the heck?

    Multiple sites updated to 2.2, dashboard, plugins, feeds (inc. feeds set to feedburner) all working for me, no line break issues. Very smooth update.

    prior to upgrading your production blog, test the upgrade using a separate wordpress installation.

    This thread isn’t very productive. A lot of folks are putting their support problems here which isn’t very helpful.

    As to upgrading – how many thousands of downloads and how many users reporting problems? Also, most problems are user error or server config problems. A few the normal things to work out after upgrades.I have upgrade 4 of my sites without problems.
