• Hello,

I use Amazon affiliates on MOST blogs on our site.

Historically, amazon affiliate images DO NOT offer any alt image tags, they leave it blank. So for best coding practices, I went ahead and added alt tags to every image.

Fast forward to now…they’re all showing a broken image and showing the alt tag.

I asked Amazon if there’s anything that we can do and they basically told me to go in and fix EVERY link manually. In other words, countless hours of cleanup (Great, thanks Amazon).

So here’s my question…is there any way to search/replace the entire posts database and automatically strip anything inside of the alt tags for Amazon?

Seems a bit messy, but with proper backups and such…I’m willing to try anything to clean up my broken site.

Thanks for ANY and ALL opinions…I appreciate it!

    Chris

I see all your images when I disable the “privacy badger” addin for Chrome. Are you using any adblocker or privacy tool in your browser?

    Hey Steven,

Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate it.

I’m not using anything in my browser. Yes, the images are still there but right after it is the broken image with the alt tag. Do you see that in the link I provided?

    Thanks!

Yes, as I said — when my privacy tool is enabled.

What do you see in an incognito/private viewing session? The issue is NOT WordPress but in your browser.

    Hello,

When I view the site in incognito mode, it still shows the broken images/alt tags.

I also checked it in Firefox, IE, and Edge and it’s broken in all of them.

    Thanks

Anyone else have any suggestions on an easy, non-manual fix such as database queries?

    FYI, from Edge:

Perfect. So you see what I see.

The image LOADS but right next to it is a broken image thumbnail followed by the alt text.

That is what I’m trying to fix.

Sorry if I didn’t explain better.

This seems to be the link to that image:

    <img loading="lazy" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=flywa-20&language=en_US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07Q8G36QV" alt="Rechargeable Headlamp" width="1" height="1" border="0">

But trying to access the src, https://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=flywa-20&language=en_US&l=li3&o=1&a=B07Q8G36QV results in an error.

This is not a WordPress issue.

I agree, it’s not a WordPress issue. I never claimed it was.

What I was asking, was opinions on the best way to clean it up IN WORDPRESS.

Maybe a SQL statement in the DB or maybe a temporary plugin I’m not finding?

I’m not trying to point fingers or anything, I was just looking for opinions on how to fix my problem.

Sorry if it offended you. Wasn’t trying to talk down on WP or anything?

I’m not offended! Whatever is going on is at adsystems.com and should probably be addressed by them.

Like I said in my original post, they offered no help.

Why is it so bad to ask a question here?

It’s not bad to ask a question here, but you’re asking about stuff that’s not solvable in WordPress, as far as I can see.
