I’m based in the US and I have a WordPress blog full of my affiliate links to the US Amazon website. Then, I signed up for a Geni.us account, set up additional affiliate accounts in other Amazon country sites, put these all into my Geni.us dashboard, installed the ALE into my WordPress blog, and connected it with an API key and secret.

Next, when I go to my blog and click on one of my affiliate links, it still shows the old affiliate link as it was before I installed the ALE. Nothing appears to be different. There is no reference to Geni.us anywhere in the link. So how does a person from the UK or CA get redirected?

If that’s really all there is to it, then how do I test it? I read the testing documentation, but the examples given for testing ALE don’t match what my links look like. The testing links refer to Genius in them. But my links are the same as before ALE. I don’t get it.

And, when I put the string “&targetiso2=XX”, nothing happens. In fact, I can put any string of random characters at the end of my affiliate link and it still works. It just resolves back to the Amazon US site, regardless of what I append to it.

So, I feel like I’m missing some step in all of this.

  • Hey there,

My apologies for the inconvenience here. It sounds like something isn’t setup quite right with your site and the plugin. You should be seeing the format of the link change from a normal amazon link to something like “buy.geni.us/xx.” Since it sounds like that isn’t happening, it leads me to believe that the plugin isn’t functioning correctly on your site.

Can you email me at tr {at} geni.us and provide me with your Geniuslink username and the website where you’re using the plugin? I’d be happy to help diagnose what is going on here and get the Amazon Link Engine functioning correctly on your site so you can start earning international commissions!

    Cheers,
    Taylor

Hi thanks for the reply. I figured it out. I was navigating the links from inside my wordpress admin panel page. It won’t show the genius link this way. When I navigated from outside the wordpress admin panel page, the genius link is visible.

Sorry, I’m kind of new to all of this so I didn’t realize it wouldn’t work from inside the admin panel. Maybe something to pass on to other newbies.

    Thanks.

Ah OK that totally makes sense and I completely understand the confusion. The way the plugin works, the links are dynamically created on page load. Since you’re not actually loading the page as you would through a browser when your in the WP panel, that’s why you’re not seeing the links converted.

No need to apologize at all! I completely understand why that was confusing. Glad you got it figured out!

    Cheers,
    Taylor
