AMP compatibility

Thanks for trying Podcast Player.

Presently it is not compatible with AMP (actually I never tested it with AMP). But thanks for suggesting it. I will now check and make it compatible. It might be available in v3.1 or v3.2 based on how complicated it is to implement, but surely it will be there.

I’m just looking forward to the AMP compatibility, I would even pay for it at a premium version.

Do you have a timeframe for future availability? And would it be hard to do it, perhaps I can try my hands at it.

I can understand that AMP is one of the very important features we quickly want to have in Podcast Player. However, our development work has slowed a bit due to current situation.

Presently, my priority for development is as follows,

1. Address many display and accessibility related issues.
2. Remove code bloat to improve podcast player’s performance.
3. check and try to implement AMP

It may take approx two weeks time. If you want to help me implementing it, I can work with you and provide you all necessary details and assistance.

Thanks for your continued interest in Podcast player.

I was trying to understand and implement AMP compatibility with Podcast Player for past few days. Podcast player is heavily dependent on JavaScript. Almost all of the functionality is achieved using JavaScript.

unfortunately, AMP does not allow any custom JavaScript to be added on AMP pages. There is a very little possibility for a workaround, though it is very restrictive and essentially require to rewrite the entire plugin (and maintain two separate variations of the same plugin, one for AMP pages and one for non AMP pages). This is clearly not the best thing to do at this time (as this plugin is in very active stage of development and new features and changes will be made very frequently).

I am sorry to disappoint you on this but it is very difficult to give a timeline on when AMP compatibility is possible with Podcast player.

JetPack has recently introduced there own Podcast player block which is AMP compatible (but with AMP, it is just as good as list of links to podcast episodes). However, you can try if you wish.

I am keeping this ticket open and will continue to see how to make it possible. Will inform you whenever it is done. Please inform, if you also get any information which can help expedite. I will certainly look into that.
