The “amp-img” tag cannot be a descendant of the “amp-story-player” tag

This error appears in Google Search Console and affects pages where web stories are embedded, causing the AMP version of such pages to become invalid.

It occurs when using the recommended model of shortcode to embed web stories:

    [web_stories_embed url="https://wp.stories.google/stories/how-to-optimize-videos-for-web-stories/" width="360" height="600" title="How to optimize videos for Web Stories" ]

I tested on another website that uses the official AMP plugin and the error doesn’t happen so it might be something related to AMP for WP specifically as another user reported this same error 3 years ago.

Hello, Akshay. I’m doing some tests and I’ll report back here, but it seems something related to the use of the poster in the shortcode and the img element in the self-generated Gutenberg HTML. It’ll be confirmed soon by Search Console and we may rule that out.

Confirmed. This issue is related to the use of the poster element in the shortcode, or when Gutenberg adds the <img> element to its self-generated embed code. Therefore, it is likely something related to the official Web Stories plugin itself, or possibly associated with the use of the Gutenberg text editor.

The solution involved using the basic shortcode without the poster element and overriding the code generated by Gutenberg with the same shortcode.

    Hi @redepiabanha ,

Thank you for sharing your findings and resolving the issue by using the basic shortcode without the poster element and overriding Gutenberg’s generated code.

Just to ensure everything is resolved on your end, could you please confirm if you are no longer encountering the error in Google Search Console? If the issue persists or you need further assistance, feel free to reach out, and we’ll be happy to help!
