An automated WordPress update has failed to complete

There is an upgrade folder in wp-content path

There is also a file called .maintenance in the web root path ?

Are you running it through a auto installer?

We only used the WP auto update.

no I mean, when you installed it. did you use a auto installer from your hosting provider?

I’m posting on behalf of someone. He uses Zoho free hosting, it is quite likely that there was an auto installer, as the defines in wp-config.php are very non standard. It’s an M$ server, not the ideal.

That’s the problem at present ..

1. It’s free hosting with Zoho.com, so there is no backup (or anything really)

2. I tried the BackUpWordPress plugin, but it needs to do a cron to backup, and crons are impossible on a M$ server. You have to use a task scheduler or similar.

There must be a method to simply run some php code and ‘dump’ the database, then we will be in a position to apply that manual update.

Thanks, I removed the .maintenance file, and ran /wp-admin/upgrade.php , received some message about upgrade not required.

That message up the top of the dashboard has now disappeared. ??

We couldn’t do a full backup, had to be content with an export of the database, and we have a local copy of the files/site.

There is still an wp-content/upgrade path there, looks like a complete snapshot of the site a few months ago.

Can we safely remove that “upgrade” path ? I see no reason for it.

Does that mean that removing the .maintenance file removes the need to updatee the site?
