• I manually uploaded the 3.7.1 update and it works, but I can’t find where to clear this message in the dashboard. An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.

I read everything about deleting the .maintenance file. I don’t see that file. I’m on a Windows server.

    Any other suggestions.

    Thanks.

  • Same here. All up to date but with the same message: “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now”.

On the Updates page, I have, “You have the latest version of WordPress. Future security updates will be applied automatically”.

    The plot thickens ??

Also, I’m assuming that with this new automatic update feature this is going to continue to happen with the site’s current settings. Can someone point me to instructions on file/folder permissions that will allow the automatic updates, but that are also secure for the site.

    Thanks,

I have 7 site running WP 3.7.1 – Four of them updated find and three I get
(An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now). There is no content or files in my upgrade folder and no maintenance file in the root directory.
I have checked all setting on server and they are the same. I setup three more site to test with and two of them update fine and one failed.
I set them up in this order.
    https://xxxxxx.xxx/Site/test1/
    https://xxxxxx.xxx/Site/test1/test2/ (failed)
    https://xxxxxx.xxx/Site/test1/test2/test3/

Test site two (test2) failed ????

    OK, this worked for me.

I gave this file (wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) write permissions.
Then I went to updates in the dashboard and reinstalled 3.7.1. This cleared the error message.

I assume I need to leave this file with write permissions for future automated updates to work. Any security issues with this?

Also, I have to make the /wp-content folder writable for plugins to update from within WordPress. Is this a security issue?

    Thanks.

I don’t know that it makes sense to change update-core.php to write permissions.

FWIW, my /wp-content folder is writeable and I manually installed 3.7.1, and this message still won’t go away. I don’t have a .maintenance file, and I can’t figure out how to dismiss this error.

Pretty annoying to see this “error message” even with no real errors.
