    Hi,

I am having issues. I tried to back up my site, but it failed, allegedly, because “Writting to file failed! Probably, there is no more free space left?” I did contact my host and was assured that my plan enjoys unlimited disc space. Can you please?

    Thanks.

    Stephen.

    Hi,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with the Total Upkeep backup process. The error message you received suggests that there may be a problem with the available disk space on your server.

While your hosting plan may offer unlimited disk space, there can still be limitations in place that prevent you from utilizing all of it. It’s possible that your hosting provider has set certain limits or restrictions on your account.

To troubleshoot this issue, there are a few steps you can take:

    1. Confirm available disk space: Check with your hosting provider to confirm the amount of disk space available on your account. They should be able to provide you with this information.
    2. Optimize your site: If your site contains a large number of images, videos, or other media files, it may be worth considering optimizing them to reduce their size. This can help free up disk space and potentially resolve the issue.
    3. Clear temporary files: If you have any temporary files or cache files stored on your server, clearing them can also help free up disk space. You can usually do this through your hosting control panel or by using an FTP client.

It would be great to know if this is your first time attempting to create a backup with Total Upkeep or did the problem arise after you’ve already managed to complete successful backups in the past? If you have completed backups before can you let us know if anything has changed with your website since the last successful attempt?

Lastly, we would like to review your backup logs to see if they reveal anything useful. Navigate to Total Upkeep > Tools > Logs and look for your most recent log. It will have a name like archive-XXXXXXXX.log. If you can copy that and paste it here, we’ll be able to get some more information about what went wrong.

I hope this helps. We look forward to assisting you further if need be!

    Hi

The problem seems to have resolved itself without me doing anything. Indeed, I was planning to contact my host to double check with them whether I did actually have unlimited disc space. However, if the situation occurs again in the near future, I will get back to you with an archive log for you peruse.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my query.

    Stephen.

    Hi Stephen,

I’m happy to hear that the backup issue resolved itself.

While some hosting providers advertise “unlimited” disk space, it’s important to note that there are typically limitations in place. These limitations can include factors such as server resources, fair usage policies, and acceptable use policies. In reality, there is always a finite amount of disk space available on a server.

It’s always a good idea to consult with your hosting provider to understand the specific limitations and policies associated with your hosting plan. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate information regarding the disk space available to you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to ask. We’re here to help!
