“An error occurred processing the form. Please try again.”

The above error message is displayed to some customers using the website concerned. The issue is similar to one I found in another post on this forum.

Several customers reported they got the error message, instead of the intended “after submission” message. In each case, however, the form did submit. They, as well as the admin, received a confirmation email. The reported issues occurred on mobile devices, both Android and iOS. I received specific details of one of these devices: iPhone XR, iOS 13.3.1, Safari.

The “after submission” message was set to “hide form”, because somehow customers were submitting the form several times within seconds. Possibly they double or triple clicked the submit button.

The Forminator shortcode is in a WordPress “WP Text” element that has nothing else in it. It is used on a website that was built with the “Baker” theme from Edge Themes. The theme package includes the bundled “WP Bakery” plugin, used to add and adjust page elements. The current version of the plugin is not the latest. Unfortunately it cannot be updated manually, because Edge Themes is supposed to push updates for bundled plugins from their side. The theme itself, WordPress, and all other plugins are up-to-date.

Debugging by deactivating running plugins is not really an option, because the website is live, and few customers have reported the issue.

This test page [ redundant link removed ] contains the actual form. The shortcode is also in a “WP Text” element. Other page elements have been removed. The page where the form is supposed to go, now /bestellen/ temporarily uses a CF7 form because business must go on.

I hope these details can help to figure out what the problem is. Your help is much appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Jochem

    Hello @jochemvandrimmelen ,

    I’m sorry about this issue.

I have tested your form on 3 different devices and I wasn’t able to replicate this problem.
    All 3 forms were submitted.

That’s said, can you try the suggestion from this post https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/form-error-on-submission-but-still-receiving-email/#post-11287990 about changing the method of form submission?

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Hi @wpmudev-support2

Thanks for looking into this. I adjusted the settings following your advice. What effect should disabling Ajax and preventing page caching have? What issue does it resolve?

    Cheers,
    Jochem

    Hello @jochemvandrimmelen

    I trust you’re doing well!

Please see if this has resolved an issue that you had on your site and let us know how it went.

Ajax is a technology/method that allows loading the form. Forminator has two options, Ajax or Page reload. And page caching option will stop caching pages where the form is located. Submitting data in cached forms can cause various issues, like the one that you have.

    Please advise,

    Kind regards,
    Nastia

    Hi @wpmudev-support9 ,

Several customers have been asked to test the adjusted form. Should the issue persist, I’ll let you know.

Note: I noticed that the down-side of page reload is that the page loads at the top, while the submission confirmation is at the bottom of the page. This way, it will easily be missed.

    Cheers,
    Jochem

This is something that our developers familiar with and they are working on a feature that will allow selecting a position of the submission confirmation message.

Let us know how it went with the form!

    Hello @jochemvandrimmelen

I hope you are doing well!

I’m afraid we do not have an ETA. We don’t publish ETAs to prevent disappointment if a deadline is missed(which in plugin development quite a frequent occurrence!).

If you do have any followup questions or require further assistance feel free to reopen this thread by replying back.
