    Hello,

When sending a blast via Constant Contact, my client is getting a flood of emails with content like…

*Note: You have disabled admin email notifications under the plugin settings, but are receiving this email because of the following reason.

Your Constant Contact Forms plugin has captured new information.

Submitted to Constant Contact: An error occurred while attempting Constant Contact API request.

The log is filled up with errors like this…

[2020-10-18 23:59:00] API.INFO: Contact set to be created [“Extra information”,[{“form”:”Uptown United Mailing List Form”}]] []
    [2020-10-18 23:59:00] API.INFO: ConstantContact_API::add_contact:527 – http.status.bad_request – Bad request. [] []
    [2020-10-18 23:59:00] API.INFO: Submitted contact data [“Extra information”,[{“email___ecd412e904309dcce66177488240b016”:{“key”:”email”,”val”:”***@aol.com”},”email”:”***@aol.com”,”lists___94db2c546b2f41f3e94f445d027e5a9f”:{“key”:”lists”,”val”:””},”list”:[“12”]}]] []
[2020-10-18 23:59:00] Mail.INFO: mail attempted for info: Duplicate send mail for: info and: 7ca98e98f46d6a9ce81482d5c6ccace9 [“Extra information”,[“7ca98e98f46d6a9ce81482d5c6ccace9”]] []

Any ideas why this is happening? I’m not sure why the plugin would be trying to do anything in this scenario as the email is sent through CC to an established contact/list.

    Thanks much for your help!

    Philip

Do you have a link to the page with the form in question? Looking over the code, and the most obvious reason feels like possibly opt-in requirements not being met.

    Hello,

Thanks for responding so quickly. The form is used in a popup on https://exploreuptown.org/. I could understand getting those notices when someone attempts to sign up. It doesn’t make sense though (does it?) that the plugin would even have anything to do with when a blast is sent.

    Thanks!

That part is definitely a bit suspect, as the notification type above would be more for when people are signing up to be added to the list, rather than receiving the newsletter when already on it.

However, perhaps by sheer odds of timing coincidence, a handful of new signups tried around the same time?

Also odd is that the popup form that I’m seeing isn’t from us, it’s from what looks like “Hustle Popup” ? But the form just above the footer is ours.

They received 6,000 of them right when they sent the email. I believe that would rule out the timing coincidence possibility.

Yes to the popup being Hustle which the CC integration. There are other fields around the site like the footer you mentioned, also in some banners and on some pages, like https://exploreuptown.org/connect/newsletter-sign-up/.

I’m not sure what to do next. Any help is appreciated!

    Hmm

Is there any chance a test newsletter blast could be done? I’m curious if it’s potentially a 1 time thing or if it’s going to be each time. We can set up an email to receive the newsletter on our end to see how it is on that end as well.

I believe it’s happened multiple times already. I’ll ask them about a test or when the next mailing would be and let you know.

    Thanks again.

The client has provided a bit more detail now. They actually have a blast going out tomorrow. Please do subscribe and monitor/etc to see if we can figure out what is going on. They’ve also confirmed it’s happened several times already…

I can confirm that it happens every time we send an eblast. We send 1-3 a week and a couple of thousand are generated in the junk box of the info mailbox. I empty it nearly every day and there are over 1200 in there at the moment. By the end of each active week there are over 6,000.

Just enrolled via the one shown in the popup on the frontpage.

By any chance, is there willingness to disable the official plugin temporarily while this goes out, to see if that removes the issue?

I’m looking at the Popup plugin’s codebase and am seeing a matching library that we ship with to communicate with the API, and I’m wondering if the two are getting mixed. Meaning Hustle intends to use its own copy, but ours copy gets loaded first, and data gets potentially mangled and thus errors like the above happen and here we are running some support diagnostics.

    Hello,

We went ahead and recreated the Hustle functionality via some custom coding and then just removed that plugin entirely. The problem persists though even with only the Constant Contact plugin installed. Everything else is completely updated.

    What next?

    Thanks much,

    Philip

    Hi,

To clarify, you removed Hustle’s plugin, I got that part. In what way did you recreate the functionality? An embed coming from your dashboard in ConstantContact.com ?

    Thread Starter wpcrank_phil

    (@wpcsphil)

We made a new form in the CC plugin and then used the shortcode on the homepage in a modal. Not having Hustle removes the duplicate library possibility I believe.

    Thanks

Gotcha, you used ours for both this time. Makes better sense. Thanks for that.

Still doesn’t explain why so many notifications are being sent out, which I assume is still an issue? In regard to what you said from about 2 days ago.

    Thread Starter wpcrank_phil

    (@wpcsphil)

Yes, they are still having the problem.

    Thanks

Are you willing to move this support to private correspondence? We’re still not sure why so many notifications are being sent out but can’t dig in any further at the exact moment. We also don’t want to just leave you hanging here.

If yes, can you please reach out to [email protected] and cc [email protected] with it? Also please include this url below so we can correlate which support request the email is related to.

Thank you for any willingness you have here.
