  • Hello @dp409 thanks for getting in touch!

While we’re limited to Web Stories plugin support I’d be happy to ensure you have your snippets placed correctly, while also inspecting your setup to see if I spot anything unusual. Could you please share your Site Health information here or privately using this form?

You can also learn more about the Web Stories Insights Dashboard and how it works here.

Great – thank you. I submitted the site info. Also, this is what I see in my Web Stories settings.

“Site Kit by Google has already enabled Google Analytics for your Web Stories, all changes to your analytics tracking should occur there.”

@dp409 thanks for providing the information. Looking at your site source I can see that you have an Analytics snippet present but only with a GA4 property and no UA property(Universal Analytics).

As stated in the Web Stories Insights Dashboard guide “We recommend using Universal Analytics (GA3) for Web Stories tracking”. This could be the reason.

I can’t see anything in your setup that would cause this and would say it’s likely due to you not having the UA property set on your site for tracking.

You can follow this guide which will show you how to create a UA property and place it on your site. Once done it may take a few days for data to populate and then I would check the Web Stories Insights Dashboard once more.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

Just to follow on from this the datastudio dashboard does not work if the analytics snippet is inserted by Site Kit.

You could fix this by using this mini-plugin to add a compatible analytics code. You will just need to replace the tracking ID in the code.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you. Sorry for late response. For some reason wasn’t getting forum notifications.

Yes – adding that code worked. It does look like the Web Story plugin isn’t adding the code when used with Site Kit. It is adding the code when I don’t use Site Kit and put the Property ID into the Web Stories plugin.

    Thx again.

@dp409 no problem at all! Can I just confirm that you added your Analytics tracking ID with Web Stories instead of Site Kit?

If you are using Site Kit then your analytics tracking will be handled there and you won’t have the option to add this within the Web Stories settings. If this is the case you can add a UA tracking code from the Site kit Analytics module settings.

Glad you have this working now and please do let us know in future if we can help with anything else.

I have it working now with Site Kit by using the mini-plugin you provided.

Earlier as a test I disabled Site Kit, added the Tracking ID back to our site, and put the Property ID in the Web Stories plugin and that worked as well. (Which is also how I had it working prior to using Site Kit last year)

So I’m thinking that the Web Stories plugin doesn’t add the right code when using Site Kit.

@dp409 Glad to hear the mini plugin resolves this for you.

Do you have two different tracking ID’s that you’re trying to use? Is that what you mean by “Web Stories plugin doesn’t add the right code”?

Some users may have a second Analytics tracking code solely for web stories, so if this is the case for you then that currently isn’t supported in Web Stories right now. There is a feature request currently open to allow a different tracking ID so feel free to follow this.

No, one tracking ID, one property.

All I can say for sure is that prior to 12/21 I was using Google Analytics correctly for our site and using it for years by adding the Tracking ID via typical means (header insertion) This also worked with Web Stories in GA, and the dashboard link I provided when I put the property ID in the Web Stories plugin.

Then I switched to Google Sit Kit at the end of last year, and noted that the Web Stories plugin showed me this:

“Site Kit by Google has already enabled Google Analytics for your Web Stories, all changes to your analytics tracking should occur there.”

At that point Site Kit was working great for our general GA analysis, including Web Stories, but the dashboard referenced stopped showing data. (which is also sub-story level data to see how far along people are viewing)

To get the dashboard to work again I had to add the plugin you suggested.

Our site is also our full time business, so we’re pretty frequent users of GA. If Site Kit wasn’t working with GA it would have been a pretty big priority for us. The Web Story dashboard is kind of a nice-to-have.

@dp409 Understood and thanks for explaining this in detail. We will look into this to see if there is anything that can be done but glad that the mini-plugin solution works for you now.
