animal rescue website

  • Hello,

    I am attempting to create a website that would act as a hub for animal rescues and adoptions in a certain Caribbean country . I would like this site to be able to allow the different rescues and shelters around the country to register and create their own individual page(s) where they can upload images and descriptions of the rescues up for adoption. I am doing this as a volunteer for a foundation so I literally have no budget other than the time I put in. I have created the design so far and experimented with a few plugins but cannot seem to create what I want. I am relatively new to wordpress with a few sites under my belt but this one has me stumped so far and I could use some direction and ideas as to what plugin(s)to use…or course of action to take

  • If I were doing this I would use Advanced Custom Fields but that would depend on how advanced your knowledge is with WordPress and making changes to theme templates.

    You could create a page for each shelter/rescue and using ACF you can create a Repeater field with sub-fields for images and descriptions. Then they can add as many animals as they want to their page.

    Again, this may be a bit advanced if you have no experience with these sort of things.

    Thanks very much for your reply and you’re right, this may be too advanced but no time like the present to learn. Some of what you said made sense to me and obviously the stuff that didn’t make sense I’ll need to learn. I know very little about changing theme templates. I’ll see if I can figure it out. May I call on you if I need help?

    Steeevn, Be advised that very complex site questions are really out of scope here. There are docs available at the ACF site, and there are many plugins in https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ that might be useful. Also take a look at https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/ when you have specific questions.

    And, offering or soliciting work is also out of scope; these forums are staffed and moderated by volumteers. See Forum Rules – Offering to Pay.

    If you can’t do the work yourself, consider looking for a reputable person on https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or https://directory.codepoet.com or https://upwork.com

    My apologies as I did not know I was crossing any lines as when I posted late last year, jtleathers offered his assistance and I was not in any way asking “offering to pay.”

    With that said I have created most of the site already on my own and was stuck with certain problems whereas I asked for help. And since you’ve suggested that there are plugins that could be useful maybe you could recommend some (I’ve researched many already to no avail). It would be greatly appreciated.

    So again, I was asking for help in creating a site that would benefit the stray dogs of Costa Rica. I am not being paid in any way for this(volunteering my time)except for possibly the gift of saving dogs life and was not “offering to pay” anyone. jtleathers answered my post and offered his help. That is the short of it. I was simply asking for direction.

    Plus what is ACF site?

    In closing, I am confused at how you might have interpreted my original post the way you have and this is the first time I have ever experienced any negative feed back in any way with respect to any of my requests or questions. I am learning as I go and asking questions from hopefully those who know more than I do as I help those who ask questions of me. I thought that is what forums were for.

    @steeevn: No one is questioning your motives with wanting to build such a site, or your volunteer work, or anything personal.

    One, I am questioning your methods of asking for help in these forums. It appeared to me you were looking to hire someone; if not, that’s fine. We regularly have to close job postings in these forums.

    Two, you’re asking a very broad question, which are impossible to answer in these forums, which are geared toward specific and reasonably complex questions about WordPress core, and plugins and themes available at www.ads-software.com.

    And we regularly point people to other job posting sites when it appears the work they want to do or ask for help on is over their head.

    If @!jtleathers wants to help, that’s great. But these forums are geared toward plugins and themes available at www.ads-software.com.
