I have inserted an animated GIF into my Foo Gallery that is the same size as my thumbnail to preserve the animation. However, the GIF is not showing up as animated when I view it.

It is the first image in the second row here:
    Image Gallery

I’m looking for a reason as to why this is happening so I can fix it and prevent it from happening in the future. Thanks!

    Image size is 230px x 230px
    Thumbnail size is the same

    Using Avada 4.0.1
    WP 4.5.1
    Foo 1.2.9

Hi, I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since you posted this question. Have you found a solution?

What I found out is that “by default” the Foo gallery creates thumbnails, and these thumbnails are in PNG image format, no matter if you insert a GIF, it will always make it a PNG. Therefore, we can’t see an animated GIF on the front of the gallery, only the thumbnails. Even if we select not to crop, even if we enter the same size, it will use the first image of the animation.

I wrote a support question and a review, hopefully they will choose to respond at some point. I’m impressed with the gallery, not with the support so far. But, maybe they’re just having a hard year…

    Hope this helps some,

    hey @interstellarmollie, @styzer

I have built in better support for GIFs and have made this available in the develop branch here :

    https://github.com/fooplugins/foogallery/archive/develop.zip

To enable better animated GIF support, goto the FooGallery settings page and check “Show Animated Thumbnails”. This will then show the original gif as the thumb, but constrain it’s dimensions to the chosen gallery dimensions.

Please test this feature out and let me know how it goes.
These changes will be released in the next version.

    Hi @bradvin,

    Thank you for this!

I installed the new version normally, without deleting the other one and it took over the galleries I had created. GREAT!! I then deactivated the other one and everything is running smooth.

    Many thanks!

Glad that is working for you.

This will be released via normal plugin updates soon – I first need to resolve a few more other issues that others are having.

thanks for your help in testing
