Animated PNG support

    When optimising animated PNG files any animation is lost so they become static.

    In this particular case image quality is paramount, so using GIFs (which Optimole converts into videos) is not an option. I had to exclude animated PNGs from optimisation (using a key word in the file names), which defies the purpose really since these are the heaviest pictures on my client’s site.

    Do you have any plans of supporting animated PNGs by converting them into animated WEBPs or videos? Or maybe there’s some sort of tweak I could implement now?

    On a side note, when I tried using GIFs on this site, they would turn to videos with the relevant markup changes and display just fine on first load, but then the videos would simply stop displaying, and even loading the video URLs in a separate tab/window would show an empty space, and I couldn’t make them reappear.

    For now there is no support for animated PNG files, this might change in the future but I can not say for sure.

    However with regards to the GIF issue, can you provide us with a converted video tag so we can see what the issue might be.

    Thanks for the swift reply. Pity about the APNG support. I was hoping you guys used ffmpeg in the backend for conversion.

    Here’s the markup injected by Optimole instead of the <img> tag with the GIF:

    So when I first add the GIF to a page and save the page, the video appears on the page replacing the GIF just fine. Trying to load the source URL from the above markup on its own also shows the video.

    Then I load the page up from a different window, where I’m not logged in into WP, and I get a blank square instead of the video. The <video> tag remains unchanged.

    Then I reload the page in the original logged in window, and the video is gone, showing the blank square instead, with the <video> tag unchanged. And loading up the source URL on its own now doesn’t show the video either…

    Hope this makes sense.

    We do use ffmpeg for conversions however we do not process APNG we treat it as a static for now.

    Secondly can you contact us via https://optimole.com/#contact as I see the GIf’s you have provided were not processed. You could also try to clear the cache from Optimole to force them to process again. The generated tag looks ok, however it redirects back as it is unable to process that and I think that causes some issues.
