Annoying Dashboard widget/box for Solwin news

    Hello,

    An annoying ‘News From Solwin Infotech’ box appears on the Dashboard when the plugin is enabled. Because this happens automatically, every new user is presented with this when they first log-in – and have to manually disable this in “Screen Options”

    This is causing clients to get frustrated and really ruins the administrative experience.

    Please disable this by default!

    Other than that – thanks for a such a useful plugin, considering upgrading to Pro!

    We are just showcasing our other items & latest news, nothing more with this “Admin Dashboard” widget.

    According to www.ads-software.com plugin’s rule, we can showcase or advertise other items or Pro version feature listing as well.

    There are number of plugins available in www.ads-software.com plugins directory, they showcasing some advertisements, data or report analysis with the main dashboard.

    @sanjaydabhoya, I am shocked “User Activity Log” allows you to provide customer support.

    @sanjaydabhoya, you are missing the point and not listening to a customer (free or pro). The audience you are displaying your advertisements to is not the right audience in this case.

    Your response to @emangham and lack of understanding a user’s experience is an example of poor customer service and arrogance. Pushing advertising on users like this, without an option for opting out, is also unethical.

    I agree with @emangham, this is annoying for users. They will see it as spamming. You are only embarrassing yourself for not addressing this in an understanding and professional manner.

    There should be an option in the settings to globally disable this advertising from the Dashboard.

    Good luck retaining free and paid customers with a poor and unprofessional attitude.

    Thanks for your response, however I agree with everything @wordpress911 stated.

    The Dashboard is valuable admin real-estate and should be reserved for absolute essentials – ‘Solwin News’ not being one of them whatsoever.

    I totally understand advertising a premium version – but please consider removing the Dashboard Widget and instead advertise somewhere only developers would see, as opposed to admins (like clients) who just want a simple, user experience. OR AT LEAST just give a settings option like @wordpress911 suggests.

    What would be MUCH more useful with the Dashboard real-estate, is to use the widget to display quick stats like recent activity… also with a show/hide option, obviously.

    Since I posted my original topic, I have had to uninstall the plugin on dozens of sites as it is confusing clients. I’d love to be able to use it again.

    Disabling the “News From Solwin Infotech” Dashboard Widget under Screen Options is not working on any of our WordPress installations. News From Solwin Infotech is forcing itself onto the Dashboard with no means to remove that SPAM.

    Looks like we will be discontinuing use of any Solwin Infotech garbage now.

    emangham & wordpress911I agree that Sanjay Dabhoya’s reply didn’t really address emangham’s issue – although I do understand plugin developers trying to put food on the table.

    As a workaround I’ve found that, at least on newer WordPress versions, you can drag and drop Dashboard items to re-order them. We’ve also got items in there from Yoast and Quform. I re-ordered the Dashboard the way I like then went up to Screen Options and unchecked ‘News From Solwin Infotech’ and its not on our Dashboard any more.

    Perhaps a more fitting place for Solwin ads might be on one of Blog Designer’s other pages?
