Another "Cheatin Uh?" topic……

  • Hi all, I am currently trying to solve an issue which seems to be happening to more WP users ?? I used the search, but cannot really find recent discussions….

    I am running WP 4.0.1. and the theme evolve lite 3.0.4.

    As soon as I want to simply upload media (pics), I get the famous “Cheatin’ uh?” message and nothing else happens.

    Since I am not a programmer / technical specialist, what should / can I do? (Just using the site for a small group of buddies).

    Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

    In the meanwhile, try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fourteen Theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try resetting the plugins foldervia FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
    – If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

    Tara, thanks for the extensive feedback!

    Disabling the gadgets, seemed to give me a slightly different error screen with the same message……

    Then, I switched back to the twenty fourteen theme, immediately I was able to add pics again.

    However, switching back to evolve lite 3.0.4. again gave me the same issue.

    This means some conflict with your “evolve” theme. Cotact the developer of that theme, incase they need to fix something: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/zerif-lite
