• Ok I couldn’t really solve the previous htaccess question, so what I did was do a completely new install on a subdomain and the htaccess worked from there on in. The next problem I face is trying to get the permalinks to work. WordPress tells me that I should update the htaccess file, but what’s the edits I’ve got to make to have my permalinks to work under the htaccess file for the entire site?

So if I want to change my permalinks to the following:
    /archives/%postname%/

what would be my htaccess edits? Thanks guys

scratch that khaled really needs to learn how to read the documentation and wordpress itself. Feel sooo dumb :), it’s all in the codex.

If WP is telling you that you need to manually update .htacess, it’ll be showing what you need to add right below that message.
