Hi, sorry to post this but I find the WordPress documentation fails to actually properly explain anything ??

I’m making a website for a friend who only plans to have a few pages and blog articles, and I decided WordPress was the best solution for them considering they don’t know any code.
This is also my first time playing with child themes, and I love it!

But I’m having trouble getting the permalinks to work the way I want…
    /CATEGORY-NAME/POST-NAME

    Examples:
    /cats/litter-box-training
    /dogs/chew-toys

I tried setting permalinks to “/%category%/%post-name%/”, as reading the documentation didn’t give me any reason to think this wouldn’t work. But then I was getting an ANNOYING /category/ before each URL.
    /category/cats/litter-box-training
    /category/dogs/chew-toys

I found an article that said putting “.” in the categorybase would resolve this, which it did. But now the post-names aren’t working:
    /cats/%post-name%/
    /dogs/%post-name%/

This clicking on a post is pulling all the posts in that category.

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

And yes, I read that it brings down performance dramatically to refer to category but considering how small this website will be, I doubt it will matter.

hm, nevermind… Looks like I was confused.

    Resolution:
    custom structure: /%category%/%postname%/
    category base: .

shows categories as DOMAIN/dogs and DOMAIN/cats, and also shows inidividual posts as DOMAIN/dogs/chew-toys and DOMAIN/cats/litter-box-training

    Thanks anyway ??
