I’m not sure which update made the change, but where we used to have a horizontal row of ‘Friends’ to chose from at the top of the new message window it’s now a vertical strip. Not so much a problem but now the number of ‘Friends’ in the list is considerably less that the number of Friends existing and listed in the mini widget pop-up. Yes, I did try scrolling to make sure I could see the full list.

I tried un-checking the box in the search setting that you previously recommended – just in case – but makes no difference.

    Any thoughts gratefully received.

    Kind regards

    Hi there!

Is it WordPress only / BuddyPress / PeepSo / Ultimate Member?

Does search all users enabled? Does only friends mode disabled?

    Thanks!

Hello. Sorry, yes, it’s WP -> Buddypress. Search all users is enabled. Friends Mode is disabled.

And how many users are listed in suggestions?

OK ….. logged in as Admin I have 26 Friends – also listed in mini-widget but there are 12 listed in the new conversation vertical bar.

If I log in as a test member ‘He’ has only 1 Friend (also matched in mini-widget) but there is also 12 listed in the new conversation bar.

The exact same amount was listed in previous version – 12 users (as far as I see from code), but with horizontal list they just look more compact.

Hi. No, what I was seeing (last week) when it was a horizontal bar at the top I could see all 26 Friends by scrolling horizontally.

I’m certain about it because we were trying to write a user guide for our members and couldn’t figure where the extra people were coming from (as per my previous help ticket). I had two people also looking at it and they were seeing the same thing.

    Hope that helps.

Just a question. If your code is producing 12 people …. what select is being used to produce them? They can’t be ‘Friends’ as my alter-ego member only has 1 Friend. Would be good to know – even though we’ll have to rewrite the user instructions LOL.

Its firstly searching friends and if there is no 12 friends, then it adds more users from website, but only if search all users is enabled and friends only mode is not active.

OK …. so are you saying that if a member has more than 12 friends (ie like 26) then the search will only ever return 12 of them? If so …. is it ordered in any way – maybe ‘most active friends’ or similar? Just so that I know what to write in the user-guide.

OK, I have disabled Search-All-Users and yes, there is now only 1 Friend listed in the test user that has only 1 Friend. Understand that now.

It sorts by user last activity, latest active users displayed first.

OK, many thanks for taking to the time to help. I understand now and I guess it makes sense – although from a UX point of view it was much easier to have them all on a scroll bar. And I guess it stops users from send out messages with megaq-receipients. lol.
