Starting this morning my antivirus program Bitdefender is now blocking the NextGen plugin.

    Bitdefender blocked this page
The page you are trying to access contains JS:Trojan.Cryxos.1377.

Only way I could get into my wordpress was to use ftp and rename the nextgen-gallery folder to something else.

I deleted my existing nextgen plugin.
Use wp ui to newly install nextgen.
The brand new install was also blocked.

Obviously this can either be a problem with nextgen or with bitdefender.

Figured you’d like to know this was happening on at least one computer.

    Hello Cais,

No I have not contacted Bitdefender on this issue. I have some previous history trying to report false positives. It usually ends up in an impasse.
Claude: Yo guys, I have found a false positive recently. Can you have a look at it?
Bitdefender: How do you know it is a false positive?
Claude: I downloaded the plugin straight off the legit companies repository.
Bitdefender: How do you know they were not hacked or went to the darkside?

That is not the exact transcript. But, you get the point. Way too much pushback from them. Especially since I don’t actually know that your repository wasn’t hacked. Been a little of that going around.

I think this is something you’ll need to look into.

@gxxaxx – We have reviewed your report and cannot find anything to be concerned with. If you choose not to take this back to the other author that is obviously your prerogative.

If you are concerned the WordPress plugin directory has been hacked that would be something quite serious and best brought forward to the appropriate admins here. We publish NextGEN Gallery to this repository with the knowledge it is virus/malware/etc free.

    – Cais.
