Any downside to pre-publishing?

  • On WP 1.5 (I’m upgrading in a couple of days), it’s possible to change the timestamp to some time in the future, hit Publish, and WP will schedule the posting, and it won’t show up until the scheduled time. I’ve confirmed that I can do it. Now I’m trying to figure out if I should do it.

    Are there any downsides (e.g., pings not being sent, articles not being available via the ping or RSS, etc.) to scheduling the publishing of an article this way?

  • Currently, pings are sent _when you hit “Publish”, so update services like ping-o-matic will be notified that you updated even though the post isn’t yet publicly available.

    When 1.5.1.1 is released, it should contain a fix to allow a plugin to use my WP-Cron plugin to override this, and send pings only when the post would be visible.

    Thanks. I’ll hold off on setting up my automated blogging factory for a while, then. No use annoying people with articles that aren’t available yet.
