I have gotten as far as setting up a few dummy registered user accounts so I can take the role of an owner of a venue and of a musician, both with Author capabilities.

What I’m not liking is that in those roles, they see a reduced version of my site’s dashboard. I’d like to mask all those distracting menus and keep them focused on working their own content. They even get to see every image in the media collection. I think that should be off limits.

I suppose an example might be Eventbrite. You only see what you should be seeing to create your own content.

If there are any working examples where I could experience the site in a registered role, I would love to do that.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks. That’s what I discovered. I installed Registration Magic and I’m getting what I want now. Next is to “lock down” the media library to only the media belonging to the user that uploaded it for their posts. I’m just about there. So much to do – so much learning but it’s all good.

Further on in my goal to keep authors out of the back end ‘dashboard’, what does it take to have the edits to Events and Locations happen on a page that has the look of the rest of the EM pages. In other words, stay within the look of the theme.
The form to Submit a Location takes on the look of my site’s theme, so does Submit an Event. I hoped EM had similar functions for editing, but when an author clicks the tiny “edit” link, they get shunted into the back end.

Any actions after editing in the dashboard leave novices exposed to all kinds of misdirection and clumsy exits if they try to logout from there.
